About Paradise Produce Market

Providing Local Residents and Tourists of Rancho Santa Fe with the Best Produce for Over 35 Years

The History of Lemon Twist - A Local Landmark Since 1980

Lemon Twist began in 1980 as an idea of two newly graduated college best friends looking to start up a new business together. Katie Shull and Trudy Tunstall, began selling their farm fresh produce along the scenic and verdant Del Dios Highway, just outside Rancho Santa Fe. A year later, they built their first shop at the current site of Lemon Twist, a charming, wooden fruit stand, full of all of the best local fruit, honey, vegetables and flowers they could find from the family ranch, and local farms.

It continued to grow and have a loyal local following, as well as visits from tourists visiting sites such as the Wild Animal Park and the beautiful Lake Hodges area. The Shull family has been in the organic citrus packing business since the early 1980’s, and continue their operation in Vista, California. They grow and pack all kinds of citrus, such as Eureka lemons, Ruby Grapefruit, tangelos, tangerines, Valencia and Navel oranges and more…

In the summer of 1979 Katie Shull and Trudy Tunstall started Lemon Twist (now Paradise Produce market). The fruit stand was founded on hard work, and the idea that great tasting local produce should be easily available to anyone. In the beginning, it was a small, wooden stand that mainly sold citrus, strawberries, flowers, and other local produce grown on our ranch.
Since then, it’s been passed down to her son, Robin, who grew up working at the stand since he could walk. Today, we’re a flourishing market that has just about everything you need, from the best Local Organic Produce, fresh baked goods, locally made jewelry and gourmet food items, milk, eggs, beautiful statuary, flower bouquets, succulents and more.

The Fires

On October 21, 2007, the second deadliest fire in California’s history hit San Diego. It ended up killing two people, destroying 1125 homes, and costing over $1 billion dollars of damage. Here in Rancho Santa Fe, several homes burnt down, and Paradise Produce Market burnt down as well. It took us almost five years to rebuild, due to the challenges of building in California. During that time, we started over, selling fresh local strawberries, oranges, and avocados on the side of the road. We’re thankful to be back today, better than ever.

Paradise Produce Market Today

Now Paradise Produce Market, our local market has seen four generations of family members working in our store over the years. In 2015, Robin Shull- Katie Shull’s son, now owns and operates the family business. Robin Shull inherited his father’s farming instincts and can be found daily in one of the gardens on the property where he grows a variety of organic produce.Robin grew up in Rancho Santa Fe when he was a young child on the first local farm that his family owned, and is how the location of Paradise Produce originated. Robin also has a background in IT Computer programming, web design, graphic design and marketing. His first love though comes from his family roots as a farmer, and being available for his customers needs at Paradise Produce Market.
